Wendy Hardie is a multi awarded environmental artist and emerging expanded photographic artist using alternative analogue processes embedded in or created with performative sculptural & installation based forms. With a passion & deep respect for the land born out of an intensely immersive childhood on a small tenant farm on Scotland’s River Tay, her phenomenological practice focuses on poetic spatial and human narratives with an emphasis on threshold and interstitial exploration, particularly humanity’s relationship to our now critically fragile Anthropocene environment. Her practice analyses, interrogates & viscerally & metaphorically revisualizes to open up consciousness to a significantly more porous, delicately interwoven planet. It is also an emphatic celebration & expression of the psychological & spiritual power landscape & nature bestows on us & a visual journey to find more sustainable, sensitive ways to harness that sublime power. Multi form series built over years with rigorous contextual research & site specific materiality, her layered, allegorical image making increasingly works with plants to find more sustainable photographic processes.

London & Scotland based, Hardie has an architecture degree & a nationally and internationally awarded highly progressive collaborative art in architecture environmental art practice. She was at the forefront of the pop up movement in the UK with her pioneering work at Edinburgh International Festival from 1992-96, with photography a core conceptual tool throughout her career. Taught by alternative process photographers since 2017, exhibiting & collected since 2021, Hardie has been selected by international open calls for publications & ambitious environmental photography exhibitions across England. She is the curator of Porous Light which she centres around environmental and societal works, with two exhibitions, a large London experimental analogue photography show in 2023 & an intimate salon show for Dulwich Festival in 2026. She currently has 4 environmental works shortlisted for the Royal Photographic Society’s International Photography Exhibition 167 and has a commissioned photobook in progress.
